This album is one of the most anticipated of 2011, suffering from multiple push-backs the album will finally see the light of day on the 20th of December. Jeezy announced features such as Jay Z , Snoop Dogg , Devin The Dude , Ne-Yo and much more and they certainly did the LP justice.
Track 1: Waiting
The album kicks off with the track titled waiting, with a sound sample of the crowd cheering in the background. With Jeezy starting the song with some singing vocals. Basically the song is talking about how he made it to where he is with “Thug Motivation”, and how he never sold out and kept it 100 all the way through his career, also talking about the “phoneys” in the rap game . The hook is Jeezy , same passage as the opening of the song , good blend to the production. Jeezy keeps consistent in this song all the way through. The song as a whole has a great feel to it , with the sample , production and subject it makes the atmosphere very blended.
Overall I give this track a 3.5/5, great song to kick of the album
Track 2: What I Do (Just Like That)
Produced by Drummer Boy the beat is pretty heavy, bumps with a good amount of bass. The song starts with Jeezy punching in that heavy gangster shit, It’s a pretty good song . As the title says It’s basically about what he does, with memorable lines like “ Must be drinking amnesia because I forgot what I said”. Not really much notable about the song besides the production.
Overall this track deserves a 2.5/5
Track 3: OJ
The production on this is pretty clever in my opinion. This song is contains some rich / fame ignorance. A money flaunter track, with a solid hook from Jeezy and a decent first verse with nothing really memorable. Fabulous has the second verse , everybody familiar with this name knows he’s lyrically incredible. Not a great verse but not bad either , fits the song structure well , but Jeezy had the better verse. Jadakiss comes in with the ending verse , talks about riches , how he bought his parents a car , with a little quote for Notorious B.I.G.
Overall Jadakiss had the best verse , Fabulous had the weakest verse. They all fit the track pretty well and made it what it was.
Giving this track a 3/5, defiantly replay able with good production
Track 4: Nothing
Jeezy comes in with another gangster track, talks about how people come up from nothing, doing anything to reaching your dreams, and how they don’t owe anybody anything. Basically being the underdog, rising to the top. Jeezy is lyrically impressive on this track , pretty consistent with it al content wise it’s also Impressive , potentially one of the best tracks on the album
I give this track a 3.5/5.
Track 5: Way To Gone
This track is interesting in its own concept, the way I interpreted it was Jeezys talking about how he came up and now he’s bigger then anticipated. This is one of those celebration tracks for his achievements and what glamour comes with being a rap superstar. Consistent through out the whole track with Future on the last verse, keeping up with Jeezy lyrically , who also had a good verse , and the production on the track is nice.
Song was enjoyable , definatly a interesting song with a repetitive song subject through out hip hop. I give this track a 3.5/5
Track 6: Supafreak
Nothing to really say about this track , one of the weakest tracks on the album so far , basically about how Jeezy and most “niggas” want that “supafreak”. 2 Chainz comes in for the second verse , Probably a more persisive and lyrically better then Jeezy’s last verse but nothing worth quoting or memorable. The last verse is the best verse on the track. At the end I interpreted that it they weren’t exactly talking about a female (ha ha)
I rate this track a 2/5 , first verse was weak , second was alright , third verse was the best but nothing really impressive, the production was kind of whack to.
Track 7: All We Do
This is more of a relaxed song, can’t really intemperate wether he’s using “she” as a metophore for hip hop or talking about an actual female. I guess you can find out when you listen to it. Anyway it’s about Jeezy and his “Friend” and the connection they have , interactions and commitment and all that other bullshit. It’s actually a good track , with a good story. Solid hook from Jeezy , “All We do Is Smoke and Fuck” , lyrically it embeds well with the production of the track.
Going to give this one a 3.5/5 , one of the best tracks on the album so far. Excellent production , good concept and lyrically dope. Kicked back track.
Track 8: Leave you Alone
With Ne-Yo on the hook and starting the track , he sounds excellent on the production. Jeezy kicks off the first verse talking about a woman , and how he would supply for her keep her looking good. It goes into depth about how she’s in love and wants to leave but she can’t. The song is thoroughly consistent the whole way through. Lyrically this song is great. Verses get better and better. Ne-yo was also fantastic on the hook and bridge , and Warren G did a great job on the production.
Overall I give this track a 4/5, Great Hook, Great Beat, Great Verses, Great Concept. I’m sure you won’t find anybody who dislikes this song in the future
Track 9: Everythang
This is more of an emotional track, starts of rapping about coming from nothing , and the bad things he had to deal with and live with growing up broke. The chorus basically sets the song , so I won’t quote it but it fits well. It’s a good song with good production to go with it. It expands from the first verse going into the second talking about the come up to richess to the third verse talking about what he’s accomplished and what he has. Definatly a good structure and vibe to the song.
Defiantly one of the strongest songs on the album, the production , concept and lyrically it’s just a great song. I give this track a 3.5/5. Defiantly a replay able , enjoyable song.
Track 10: Trapped
The tracks kicks off with Jill Scott spitting a few bars, sets the tone for the song. Jeezy starts the track , his flow is on point. He talks about some of the hood shit that’s happened in his life. Jill Scott sings the hook keeping consistent with the song and it fits with the beat just fine. Jeezy has 2 verses , nothing notable but at the same it’s not a skip able track. Jill Scott saved this song from being worse then what it really is.
Giving this track a 2.5/5.
Track 11: F.A.M.E
This is the track that set T.I’s return back in stone, and one of the biggest singles to come out in the second half of 2011. With little anticipation and great feedback it was all deserved. This is obviously one of those emotional tracks on the album with a little 2pac quote in the first verse. Showing no remorse to the haters, letting him know the people who envy him know how he feels. T.I comes in with a verse, hits the jail topics , and basically what Jeezy touches on.
Everyone’s probably already heard this track so I don’t really need to go in depth , I give this track a 3.5/5 , dope verses , dope hook , great production.
Track 12: I Do
Corny ass hook , Dope features , and a unique production. Sounds like something a modern Outkast would do a track on. Jeezy’s verse is simply boring , nothing worth mentioning or remembering , I certainly think Jeezy shouldn’t touch these type of songs. Jay-Z comes in with a good verse , surely you can withhold the attention span to listen to the verse , won’t give out spoilers but it was defiantly a better verse then Jeezy’s. Some people had anticipated a Andre 3K return to only be dis-appointed , only delivering lazy verses. Besides the point this verse was another weak one , defiantly not up to his highest caliber , sounds like something he would have performed on the Love Below LP.
Besides the fact that this track had A+ features , the verses were kind of whack and the concept of the song was kind of misconceiving. I give this track a 2.5/5 due to the fact Jay and Andre were featured.
Track 13: Higher Learning
With features like Snoop Dogg , the under-rated Devin the Dude and new artist Mitchellel often confused for Rutheless records former first lady Miche’lle , my expectations were high. Wether you couldn’t interpret by the title of the song or a feature from hip hop’s biggest stoner Snoop Dogg it’s about marijuana. Each artist basically stating their love for Mary Jane , Snoop Dogg had a a good verse , Jeezy done his thing , Devin had a dope verse and probably the best verse and Mitchellel was great on the hook. The track is really kicked back , great production , great combination of features for this song.
Over all this song scores a 3.5/5 , one of the greatest songs on the album , the production and basically everyone’s contribution to the song gives it a good score.
Track 14: This One’s For You
This track is basically calling out all the Swag , Skinny Jean wearing rappers. Calling them phoneys , bitches , pussies etc. Jeezy and Trick telling it like is , setting the score straight and telling them “Fuck Niggas” what’s up. It’s a hard track, dope verses representing what’s wrong with today’s hip hop. So for you trick phoneys , “This Ones For You”
Going give this track a 3.5/5. Stating what alot of people think and what’s wrong with today’s hip hop trend. People are going to get offended over this track but so fucking what. It goes hard
Track 14: .38
Any track Jeezy and Gibbs do together never disappoints , no matter what flaws you want to look for or can find. This shit hits the gangster stature. The beat is heavy, Jeezy releases some sub-par verses on here , but acceptable for the fact that it’s his dome with this shit. Nothing extremely Impressive. Freddie Gibbs comes and rips that shit drastically. On the Ski-Mask murder gangsta shit. Easy to say Gibbs had a better verse then Jeezy , but overall this is the weakest track they’ve collaborated on.
Giving this track a 3/5 , serious production for what it is. Freddie Gibbs murders it, Jeezy wasn’t terrible , but wasn’t great.
Track 15: Ballin
“ You think you ballin cause you got a block”, Jeezy basically stating that he’s “ballin”. Money ignorance at its finest. It’s really chain music , some shit Birdman would put out , it’s an mediocre track over all , definatly would be considered a filler to most people. Lil Wayne comes in and it’s simply easy to tell that wayne did not write his verse , it’s certainly something he’d rap about on his album but lyrically I think it’s past his calibre of lyrical talent that we haven’t seen in years.
Overall I’ll rate this track a 2.5/5 , nothing memorable besides the fact Weezy had a better verse then Jeezy surprisingly.
Track 16: Lose My Mind
This has a heavy southside vibe , from content to the production. Southside rappers seem to have a reputation of naming their track Lose My Mind to i.e Young Buck. Wack ass verses from Jeezy with the most noteable line “My Room got rooms”. Plies comes in with that hard attitude , Fuck the police type shit. A better verse then Jeezy but at the same time it really wasn’t impressive at all. The Highlight of this track was probably Plies ignorant verse or the sub-par production.
Giving this a 2/5. Simply because of the weak to sub-par verses , there really wasn’t a basic concept for the song either.
Track 17: Never Be The Same
The last song on the album , and certainly a good way to end it. “I don’t look at you the same way no mo my nigga”. One of the very few emotional tracks on the album, seem to be the best ones on the album. He’s dedicated this track to all the hustlers, and everyone else equivalent , and what will happen if you push and succeed. How nothing can stop you , how to achieve and that kind of shit. Good production , great concept and verses with a solid hook. Also a good way to end the anticipated album.
This was a great album and certainly passed a lot of people’s expectations. Great production , Excellent features and really only had 3-4 sub-par tracks. It’s certainly going to have a few more spins in my cd player, I also recommend going out and buying it on 20th of December because it’s simply worth it. I don’t know what they’re doing with the Eminem track but it’s believed to be a bonus or on the Deluxe Edition.
I’m giving this album an overall score of 3.5/5 and recommend you checking it out with an open mind and I promise you won’t regret it . I had second thoughts about listening to this album and I’m certainly glad I did.
